1998 V70R
1998 V70R has a 2007 swap with a real 2.5liter R engine,
Many don't like this engine cause its not robust
enough to get 500 horse power well in California we have to keep all smog
equipment in place,
so this engine is an excellent stock replacement with stronger bottom end and
larger valves .
Swap went well with a few items that were not covered by searching and reading
on how to Volvo RN swap.
One was finding a longer serpentine belt due to the larger diameter crank,
making the original belt too tight to run with original 1998 accessories
hooked up.
I did some measurements and end up ordering a longer 5 rib Goodyear/continental
belt that worked.
when pulling the engine, the all-wheel drive inspection of the bevel gear
coupler required replacement,
servicing the angle gear with new fluid and seals, I would say the cost of a new
Volvo radiator
and all miscellaneous items, fluids, Volvo Genuine seals, Volvo Genuine timing
belt kit and new Genuine PCV
and hoses easily added $1000 to the swap. I have been collecting genuine
Volvo
dealer tools for awhile to set the seals and timing correctly. Advice is
to find a local friend with correct setup
tools, It will make life easier. I will post a list of tools needed
Video from ARD has some great basics.
